Cascading Style Sheets -- a system of rules and markups for affecting the display (fonts, colors, layout) for HTML documents. The intention of CSS is to suggest display characteristics in a manner that does not cripple the display if the viewer is not able to use CSS. CSS rules can be embedded into an HTML page, or placed in an external file to be used by many individual pages, called by a link element in the HTML document's HEAD section:
