HTML Basics

Browsers accept tags in uppercase, lowercase, or any mixture you want. Most HTML editors allow you to specify your preference, and some (HomeSite) will change all the tags on a page from one case to another, if you wish. Page authors have individual preferences whether all uppercase is preferable to all lowercase, usually deciding on the basis on what looks (to that individual) most readable in the editor.

On the other hand the [XHTML 1.0 specification] clearly states that ``element and attribute names must be in lower case'', so keeping tags in lower case will ease migration to XHTML.
