HTML Basics -:- CSS FAQs

Indenting is a presentational matter, so should typically be handled by CSS:

 <div style="margin-left: 5%">all your text here</div>

Change the value of the margin to your liking, and include the style definition in a separate style sheet if you want! Stephanie Booth

Another option --

 <body style="margin-left:80px">

Isofarro sez: Isn't indentation moving one or more elements inwards from the margin, leaving other elements flush, so the above isn't a good example of indentation, since all elements are "indented".

Don't be using blockquote as a way of indenting. The behaviour of blockquote is irregular (to be polite), and because of its problems and misuse it has now been deprecated by the w3c -- http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/struct/text.html#h-9.2.2.1 : "The usage of BLOCKQUOTE to indent text is deprecated in favor of style sheets"

Isofarro sez: Remove this link? Jerry Muelver: Naw -- classifying it is more helpful. It's an often-referenced FAQ, and folks should be warned.
