HTML Tables

Tables in HTML don't work that way. For differing column dimensions, you have to use COLSPAN. Here's something to experiment with:

<table cellspacing="2" cellpadding="2" border="1">
<tr>
    <td>1.1</td>
    <td>1.2</td>
    <td>1.3</td>
    <td>1.4</td>
    <td>1.5</td>
</tr>
<tr>
    <td colspan="2">2.1</td>
    <td colspan="3">2.2</td>
</tr>
<tr>
    <td colspan="4">3.1</td>
    <td rowspan="2">3.2</td>
</tr>
<tr>
    <td colspan="3">4.1</td>
    <td>4.2</td>
</tr>
</table>
Early "pixel-perfect" WYSIWYG editors use tables with 30 or forty columns and worked COLSPAN like a crochet needle to get their deezyner layouts.

See RF's "Tricks with tables" listed on HTML Tables for more tips.
