<a href="#" OnClick="history.go(-1);">Back</a>

or, for the belt+suspenders set, in case the visitor does not have JavaScript enabled:

    <script language="Javascript" type="text/javascript">
      document.write("<p><a href='#top' name='#top' onClick='history.go(-1); return
    false;'>Back</a></p>");
    </script>

Isofarro seyz: According to http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,2256340a28,00.html the back button is used more than any other button. This seems to suggest users know what a back button is. That indeed would reduce the need to have an artificial javascript button on a page.
